Accessibility

General Statement

Accessibility matters and it’s the law! We at the Center for Autism are committed to full compliance with all applicable federal and state laws governing digital accessibility. As a provider of programs, services, and activities, we are subject to:

  • Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – mandating that our website and digital platforms be accessible to people with disabilities. [ada.gov], [astho.org]
  • Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which require accessibility for entities receiving federal funding and federal agencies, respectively. [astho.org]

Recent Regulatory Updates

In April 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice finalized new rules under ADA Title II, clarifying the requirement that state and local government websites and mobile apps must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
Upcoming compliance deadlines include: [ada.gov], [robbins-schwartz.com]

  • April 24, 2026 for entities serving populations of 50,000 or more,
  • April 26, 2027 for smaller entities. [astho.org], [civicplus.com]

While these deadlines currently apply to public-sector organizations, they set a clear standard of expectations that private and nonprofit entities should aspire to meet proactively.
