Training Description
Join FIN for an engaging and informative session designed to support educators in implementing and sustaining effective Collaborative Teaching Partnerships across elementary, middle, and high school settings. Through discussion and practical examples, participants will gain an understanding of collaborative teaching models, roles and responsibilities, and the implementation of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) to promote classroom support for students with disabilities.
Training Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify key federal and state laws supporting students with disabilities in the general education classroom and collaborative teaching.
- Define the roles and responsibilities of general education teachers and special education teachers in co-teaching environments.
- Describe various collaborative teaching models (e.g., team teaching, station teaching, parallel teaching) and their appropriate applications.
- Identify specific strategies and programs, including Peers as Partners in Learning, to support students with varying learning needs at the secondary level.

About the Presenter
Brandi Lefevre and Melonee Ferguson
FIN Facilitators
Brandi Lefevre has dedicated 29 years to education, focusing mainly on exceptional student education. Throughout her career, she has held roles as a paraprofessional, classroom teacher, and an exceptional student educator. Brandi has predominantly worked at the school level, where she has provided support to students with disabilities, their families, and colleagues. Currently, Brandi works for FIN, where her focus is on building the capacity of administrators and staff at both the district and school levels. Her work revolves around promoting best practices to support students with disabilities in the Least Restrictive Environment across the state of Florida.
Melonee Ferguson is a dedicated and experienced professional in education, particularly in supporting students with disabilities. Her extensive background in Educational Leadership, English Language Arts, Instructional Coaching, and School Improvement equips her with a broad skill set to address various aspects of education for all learners. Melonee currently works for FIN advocating for and implementing best practices for students with disabilities to thrive in all environments. By leveraging researched-based approaches, she helps districts and schools create supportive frameworks that ensure these students can access general education curriculum in the Least Restrictive Environment.
