Session 1: Preparing for Disasters: Creating a Disaster Supply Kit
It’s important to have the necessary supplies for a disaster kit. In this presentation, participants will learn about what needs to go into a disaster supply kit, how long to prepare, what to consider for loved ones with special needs, and how to store the supplies.
Session 2: Preparing for Disasters: Evacuation and Shelter Planning
Evacuation and Shelter planning takes early awareness and education. This webinar will guide your planning and give you tips to make sure you and your loved ones will be safe in the event of needing to leave your home and find shelter. Special needs planning is discussed in this workshop.
Training Objectives
Session 1: Preparing for Disasters: Creating a Disaster Supply Kit
- Understand that disaster preparation needs to be addressed for two scenarios: staying in place and leaving the area.
- Recognize the need to prepare supplies by specific categories.
- Learn how to prepare for special cases such as infants, young children, and pets.
- Discover how to pack for special healthcare circumstances.
Session 2: Preparing for Disasters: Evacuation and Shelter Planning
- Recognize the differences in planning for shelter evacuations.
- Learn about special needs resources for disaster planning.
- Learn what to consider when planning to evacuate during a disaster.
- Understand the process of sheltering with a service animal or pet.
- Review disaster resources.

About the Presenter

Lisa Math BSc, CRPS-F
Director, Family STAR program
Family Network on Disabilities
Lisa Math is the statewide Director of the Family S.T.A.R. program for Family Network on Disabilities. She is also a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist with an endorsement in working with Families (CRPS-F), as well as a certified trainer for numerous programs. In her role at FND, she supports families who have children with special healthcare needs, complex medical challenges, developmental disabilities, and mental health challenges. She has created webinars, resource materials, curricula, and presentations that she has presented at conferences and meetings both statewide and nationally. Lisa serves on many committees throughout the state that support individuals with disabilities. She has been honored by numerous organizations for her advocacy efforts. Although her career has also included working in television, radio, and adult and elementary education, her most important job is that as a parent of a 27-year-old young adult who has multiple medical conditions and mental health challenges. Lisa gave up her career while her child was young to become her child’s advocate and to navigate services, systems, and resources to meet his needs, but returned years ago as a professional to use her lived experience and training to support families on their journeys. Lisa is an award-winning poet and writer and enjoys traveling, watching historical dramas, and chocolate.
